GOAMAP launched!

People from six mining affected villages in Goa have began working together against mining and formed Goa Federation of Mines Affected People (GOAMAP) on August 10, 2008 in Margao. The villages includes Sulcorna and Morpila in Quepem Taluka, Colomba in Sanguem taluka, Shirgao and Advalpal in Bicholim taluka and Cabo de Rama in Canacona taluka.

Sebastian Rodrigues was unanimously elected as the Convenor with 20 others as a Co-convenors of GOAMAP.

GOAMAP in its first meeting passed a resolution to reject draft mining policy of the Goa Government and demanded halt to mining expansion and close down of existing open cast iron ore and manganese mines in Goa.

GOAMAP in its second resolution has demanded voluntary closedown of Hiralal Khodidas mine operating in Colomba village of Sanguem with T.C. No. 06/1949 by the mining company due to problems caused due to operation of mine.

48 people representing 6 villages were present for the meeting while the above decisions were taken.
