Quepem citizens grill Quepem Executive Magistrate over mining trucks


The Quepem Taluka Mining Front members today morning gheraod the Executive Magistrate Quepem and The Dy-S.P. Quepem over the non implementation of High Court order regarding overloading and non regulation of mining trucks via Quepem town.

The Front members first visited the office of RTO Quepem . As the Assistant Director of Transport was not present, the members conveyed their grievances to the Vehicle inspector Sandeep Dessai to communicate to his higher up who assured to do the needful.

The Front member then gheraod the Executive magistrate of Quepem Shri Sudin Nato and questioned him as to why the high court order regarding over loading is not implemented in spite of instructions given by the Collector. The front also brought to the notice of the magistrate that due to over loading lot of spillage take place in Quepem town which consequently results in dust pollution.


That after giving a patient hearing to the agitators the magistrate assured the front member that he will look into the matter and will also communicate their grievances to his higher.


The Front member then visited the office of Dy-Collector Quepem, however could not address their grievances as the Dy-Collector and his subordinate were absent.

The Front member then gheroad the Dy-S.P. Quepem at his Quepem office . As soon the member entered into the office of the Dy-SP Rohidas Patre, became very furious and questioned the front members at whose instance they had entered into the office and told the member to go out. Over this statement of the Dy-SP there was heated argument and exchange of words between the Dy-SP and the front members who were around 25 in number , for over 10 minutes. The front members accused the Dy-SP calling him agent of mining company and contractors.

The Front member brought to the notice of the Dy-SP about the violation of High Court order regarding loading and about regulation of flow of mining truck. They also brought to his notice about the constant traffic jam in Quepem town.


The Dy-S-P in reply has stated that he is not concerned about the same and it is the duty of the traffic police. Over these front members questioned the Dy-SP if it is not the duty of his office, then why the police from Quepem police station are deputed to monitor the mining truck at the check post at Tank and Sirvoi. They also questioned the Dy-SP that if his office is not concerned about the regulation of traffic then why he has attended the meeting on 15/4/2010 and 23/4/2010 called by the Collector of South G.P. Naik to review the functioning of mining truck and to discuss over the high Court order dated 22.4.2010. They also questioned him as to whose duty it is to implement the order issued by the Collector regarding timings.

The Dy-SP could not give satisfactory answer to any of the question/ quarries raised by the front members however constantly try to divert the issue and try to pass the buck on the traffic police and other department. As he could not face the agitating members he called the PI of Quepem Sudesh Narvekar to hear the grievances of the agitators.

As the Front member not ready to listen to the Dy-SP who were constantly demanding implementation of rules and regulation regarding overloading and strict monitoring of mining truck and as the Dy-SP was not having proper answers he told the front member to discuss the issued with Traffic cell and the Enforcement wing. The Dy-SP then fixed a a meeting of Traffic cell and Enforcement wing along with the front member in his chamber on Friday morning.
