Space to Grow

Umbilical cord has broken
Many things in past have been weak and crooked
Over the years I have learnt
Set out to make a life of strength and independence.

Umbilical cord has broken
In a manner heart broken
At birth some smile, some cry,
Some just grin by the side

Umbilical cord has broken
Heralding the era of growth
Past have survived storms
Pre-natal period I turn for wisdom

Umbilical cord has broken
The world around senses a novel beginning
Shocked and standstill it stands
Anxiety and passion as reflection

Umbilical cord has broken
The stubborn child lies on a cushion
Looks at the hand that
rocks the cradle.
Baby smiles, Baby cries
Baby counts stars in the sky.

Umbilical cord has broken
At an unearthly hour
With the spur of power
Destiny kissed the moment
of pain so sour.

Umbilical cord has broken
Mother’s cries were loud yet unclear
What happened to my dear?
The world suddenly
turns gloomy with fear.

Umbilical cord has broken
The world resists acknowledging
the new life so.
The life has entered through the backdoor.
Child smiles at a whistle of a sparrow.

Umbilical cord has broken.
Child crawls with a gentle prod.
Thanks! For I was brought
I am water amidst the drought

Umbilical cord has broken
Child lives with hope
Child has set the eyes
on decent soap.

Umbilical cord has broken
Unable to dream glorious dreams
Forget the thought of applying cream
Learning to walk on both the limbs.

Umbilical cord has broken
Breathes air for the first time
Milky tastes rare in times
Child is child never mind.

Umbilical cord has broken
Child is a hope
Child will elope
What destiny have tied in a rope

Umbilical cord has broken
World stands with a finger
On hearty pulse.
With anxiety extends uncertain welcome.
Curious to meet the child’s eyes.

Umbilical cord has broken
It was a matter of time
That child is born
Accidents in history played a role
No hesitations, let’s give a child
Space to grow.
