Vedanta (Dempo) curse for Lamgao Water lakes in Goa

Bicholim has one of biggest mines of Vedanta amongst purchased from Dempos for Rs.1750 crores few months ago. These are pictures taken on single rainy day of September 05, 2009 from the company's mining site at Lamgao right up to Bicholim town.

Mining silt of Vedanta gets washed into Bicholim river. The above picture shows high turbidity of Bicholim river water. Bicholim river is one of the important tributaries or River Mandovi.

Water from mining pit is being pumped out from the Vedanta's (Dempo) mining pit at Lamgao.

Dumps over dumps. Grass used to create stable conditions is disrupted with fresh dumps. As a consequence of this dangerous practice there is increase in mining silt flowing into the river.

River Sikeri at Poira, Bicholim. Chowgule’s ship building yard started in 1952. abandoned in 1990s. Around 700 workers lost their jobs.

Leakage of Gas at Syngenta pesticide plant at Corlim, Goa

On September 16 2009 at 5.00 pm there as dangerous leakage of gas at swiss multinational pesticides plant Syngenta. Watering of eye, throat suffocation was experience by the people living in Dhulapi village that lies within 0.5 kms of the Syngenta Plant. Group of people then called upon Chairman of Goa Pollution Control Board Simon D'Souza and briefed him up about dangerous situation prevailing at Syngenta Plant posing grave threat to the local residents living around all the sides of Syngenta plant.

Valvanti river for Vedanta?

River Valvanti at Sakhali, Goa is a proposed site for Bandhara for providing water to pig iron plant at Amona. Water from this river is also pumped to use at Virdi mines pit of Sesa Goa that it showcases to the world as its best mining practices.

This is the spot from where water is going to be pumped out by constructing 5 meter high BandharaThe place locally locally known as “Makar Sheno”.

River contains fresh water and is one of the important tributaries of Mandovi river.
