Gawda, Kunbi, Velip & Dhangar Federation (GAKUVED) Condemns attack and arrest of Colamb villagers by Goa Police attached to Quepem Police Station on 25-03-2008.
Villagers had gathered near the mining site to defend their livelihood and dignity that is being constantly infringed upon by Mining leases No. 06/1949 operated by Fomentos. Police while arresting deployed male constables resulting in physical attacks on female villagers and in this process Smt. Dument D'Souza, Smt. Kalavati Velip, Smt. Palmira Dias, Smt. Vithubai Velip and Smt Shobhavati Amolkar were subjected to physical injuries and insults from male police officials. GAKUVED demands strict action against the police officials involved in this matter. Also police must refrain from further harrasment of the villagers protesting mining activities in Colamb.
