February 26, 2023 is a day amongst dark days in Goa with regard to Freedom of Speech and Expression. On this day Santa Cruz Panchayat suppressed the voice of Architech Elsa Fernandes. While speaking at the Gram Sabha sound system was whisked away from her hands. She had submitted nine points for discussion at the Gram Sabha. Constitutional violations at Santa Cruz Gram Sabha has found its way into public domain with media facilitation.
Architect Elsa Fernandes has been a crusader for Justice through out her life and had to fight her way through overcoming number of hurdles. There were several attempts to stop her passion for Justice but she has always triumphed. Often it was solitary journey but her gutsy endeavors earned her daring reputation.
Her current engagement in Santa Cruz regarding Gram Sabha Development Plan and defence of Khazan lands from encroachments has earned her fresh opponents from the ruling group at Santa Cruz Panchayat. Various tactics are being deployed to intimidating her. Goa at this stage cannot afford to let her opponent prevail over her into silence. For that would be a tragedy unimaginable.
There are clues that suggest that access to her house in Santa Cruz might be arbitrary blocked on Sunday or Holiday putting her family of six members under stress. At this moment we pledge support to Architect Elsa Fernandes for she has contributed hugely to Goa already with her indomitable voice.
It is time that Goa is put on alert for all that she is going through just because she opted to stand in the side of Truth and Justice. For this she commands respects from people of Goa. Santa Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernades must lead at this moments and defend Architech Elsa Fernandes or claims of being Goa Protector is all hot air.
