Goa Federation of Mines Affected People (GOAMAP) are hoping that the President of India Pratibha Patil, currently on Goa visit, out of blue decides to take a tour of the villages ravaged by large scale mining.
If she decides to do so, GOAMAP has urged the President to undertake a visit to the belt covering villages of Sirgao, Pissurlem, Mayem, Bordem, Lamgao, Bicholim town, Sanvordem, Colamb, Maina, Pali, Advalpal and Sancorda to see for herself the destruction caused by the mining companies.
The Federation via a press release has appealed to the President to pay urgent attention to massive destruction caused by open cast iron ore, manganese and bauxite mining in the State.
It states that a large number of attempts to oppose the activity at public hearings conducted under the Environment Act have gone without being respected and there was an aggression perpetrated by the State on its people.
GOAMAP has demanded a CBI inquiry against all ministers and MLAs in the Goa Legislative Assembly on the lines of the investigation carried out against former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda.
